A Place to Live The Life
Surf ’n Sun in Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka offers their guests a local and authentic experience in a zen atmosphere. Here you are part of the local community and you get personalised service by a local family with real knowledge of the surroundings.
The story of Surf ’n Sun is unique. They come from a local fishermen family and learned to surf from their uncle. In the early 2000s, they started accommodating visitors and that’s when Surfnsun started with 3 cabanas and a small restaurant using their mother’s kitchen. Slowly the facilities and services grew, with offering surf guiding for example. In 2004, most of the place was destroyed by the Tsunami but they started rebuilding soon after. As more and more people started visiting the area, they were able to expand organically. They have a clear vision and keep improving the business for their guests.
They offer very comfortable eco-friendly accommodations with cabanas for budget travellers and villas, perfect for couples and families. The cabanas feature a double bed or twin beds, a fan and patio with hammock and garden views. They each have a private bathroom with a garden shower.
The villas sleep 2 people or 4 if there is a mezzanine level with an extra double bed. They have a fan and airconditioning, a mini-fridge and tea and coffee facilities. Each villa has a private bathroom with a luxury bathtub and an outside lounge area.
Surf ’n Sun has a beautiful lush garden with a cosy chill area. There are a cocktail bar and restaurant, famous for its pizza. The owners and friendly staff are available to answer all your questions and assist you with reservations for activities and local tours.
They advise guests to come early in the season around late May to July, to avoid the surf crowds. It’s possible to have good surf conditions in April and November too. They work with ISA qualified local surf instructors that can learn or guide you based on your skills and needs.
The closest Arugam Bay surf spot is Baby Point, which is only a 5-minute walk away. The Main Surf Point is on 10 minutes. Other surf spots on 20 to 40 minutes are Pottuvil Point, Whiskey Point, Elephant Rock, Peanut Farm and Okanda. Or you can discover some secret points with the guides if you like.
There are yoga sessions available in the morning and before sunset. They are organised on the open-air yoga deck by local and international teachers that bring their own yoga style. Other yoga styles and classes are always available on request.
